"Abnormal responses to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure can
be divided into four categories (Table 90-1):
acquired idiopathic, probably immunologic photodermatoses; DNA repairdefective
photodermatoses; photosensitization by exogenous or endogenous drugs
or chemicals, including the porphyrias; and photo-exacerbated dermatoses
not directly caused by UVR. The first and last categories, and the
approach to assessing the photosensitive patient, are covered in
this chapter. The other categories are discussed in Chaps.
