About this lecture:
Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease in the U.S. and worldwide. In this lecture, Dr. Molitch, an endocrinologist who has participated in the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and the Diabetes Prevention Program, addresses several issues regarding diabetic nephropathy. These include: (1) When and how to screen for nephropathy; (2) the effects of better glycemic control on the development and progression of nephropathy; (3) the role of blood pressure management in delaying the progression of nephropathy with goals for treatment; and (4) which antihypertensive medications have effects in delaying the progression of nephropathy over and above their blood-pressure lowering effects.
